Job description
To strengthen our teaching and research in economics, econometrics and finance, we are seeking two lecturers who will work in the Department of Economics, Econometrics and Finance of the Faculty of Economics and Business (FEB) of the University of Groningen, The Netherlands.
Organization
The University of Groningen (UG), founded in 1614, has a strong focus on research. We are in the top 100 of several influential university ranking lists. The Faculty of Economics and Business (FEB) is one of the largest faculties with approximately 7,500 students. It has a strong international reputation and is AACSB and EQUIS accredited. The Department of Economics, Econometrics and Finance (EEF) is responsible for teaching courses in many BSc and MSc programs offered by the Faculty on topics like finance, banking, econometrics, macroeconomics, microeconomics, statistics and mathematics. The Department is also an active research community, performing at the highest international level in terms of research and publications.
Job description
As a lecturer you are expected to
- teach in courses offered by the department across several bachelor and master programs; most of the teaching will consist of tutorials
- grade exams
- supervise (BSc) theses; and
- contribute to a positive climate within the department and the faculty, for example by participating in working groups and committees, especially in the domain of education.
Requirements
We encourage you to apply if you:
- have at least an MSc degree in economics, econometrics or a closely related field.
- have a background in economics, econometrics or finance.
- have proficient command of spoken and written English (in addition, command of Dutch is appreciated).
- have a passion for teaching; and
- are a team player with good communication skills who is able to inspire students and colleagues.
Conditions of employment
Contract length: 12 & 24 months.
These lecturer positions at the Faculty of Economics and Business are temporary positions, one with a length of two years, the other with a length of one year. In these positions, 80% of the work consists of teaching, 10% can be spent on research, and 10% can be used for innovation of courses and/or teaching skills.
In accordance with the Collective Labour Agreement for Dutch universities, we offer:
- a salary depending on qualifications and work experience, starting from a minimum of € 3,378 gross per month (salary scale 10) to a maximum of € 5,331 gross per month (salary scale 10) for a full-time position.
- a holiday allowance of 8% gross annual income and an 8.3% end-of-the-year allowance, as well as participation in a solid pension scheme. Non-Dutch applicants may qualify for a tax-free allowance equal to 30% of their taxable salary. A full-time position entitles you to 41 days of annual leave based on full-time employment.
- maternity and parental leave.
- the possibility to work part-time (0.9 FTE or 0.8 FTE).
Starting date is negotiable, this can be as early as August or September 2025 (preferred).
We plan to interview candidates on July 8, 9 and 10. Selected candidates are asked to give a short (10 minute) lecture during the interview, on a topic of their choosing within economics, econometrics or finance.
