Postdoctoral researcher for Commercializing Intracellular Relaxometry

Biomedical Sciences of Cells & Systems (BSCS)

Working Enviroment

You will be appointed at the department of Biomedical Engineering in the group of Bioimaging and Bioanalysis, led by prof. dr. Romana Schirhagl. The group recently obtained an ERC proof of concept grant for valorisation and is looking for a postdoctoral researcher in order to bridge the gap between research and commercialization. The work will be carried out in the laboratories of the department. The project is translational and will be in close collaboration with the startup company Diamond Visions.

The group and department are both part of the University Medical Center Groningen (UMCG) and provide ample opportunities for further career development. The position is initially for a year, but we are hoping to provide additional opportunities via the startup Diamond Visions when the grant expires.

Job description

The aim of the project is to bring quantum sensing into the world of biomedical applications. We recently made a step forward and founded the startup company Diamond Visions. The aim of the startup is to build equipment and commercialize the outcome from the research group by building a prototype for NV center based measurements. You will join an internationally renowned research group based on a recent ERC proof of concept grant for valorisation.

We are looking for a postdoc with a background in physics (optics) or engineering, preferably with experience with NV centers building of diamond magnetometers. An interest in interdisciplinary work and an entrepreneurial spirit are advantageous.

Essential selection criteria
- You have a PhD, or are working towards finalizing one, in a relevant discipline (e.g. physics, engineering).
- Willing to work in a multi-disciplinary environment, with a high degree of cross training.
- Experience in optics (preferably with NV centers or other color centers).
- Highly motivated, enthusiastic individual.

This is a lab-based post, and cannot be performed remotely.

Conditions of employment
