Would you like to make a substantial contribution to both the quality of education in the Northern Netherlands and the social mission of higher professional education? Are you the link between education and the professional field?
What will you do
As a teacher trainer of educational studies, English as an international language (EIL) , you will play a vital role in preparing future teachers at our Meppel campus. You will be responsible for planning, delivering, and reviewing learning sessions, teaching courses related to primary education and pedagogy, and leading courses in educational studies and English as an international language.
In addition to educational studies, you will teach English as international language courses. These courses not only aim to enhance the English proficiency of our students but more importantly focus on teaching English in an international primary education context. You will equip future teachers with tools and strategies for supporting language development across primary education—covering areas such as linguistic responsiveness, language development, emerging literacy, oral communication, and writing development. Emphasis will be placed on practical classroom applications and culturally responsive approaches to EIL.
Our approach is practice-oriented, deeply embedded in an international perspective, and driven by inquiry-based learning. We expect students to design education based on research, applying theory directly to diverse classroom settings. As a teacher trainer, you will guide them in making meaningful connections between research and practice, ensuring they develop as reflective and innovative educators.
We are looking for a flexible and forward-thinking educator who thrives in a dynamic environment. You should be able to diversify your role, take on new challenges, and contribute beyond your core teaching responsibilities. Collaboration and adaptability are essential, as we work closely within our international network to continuously improve and innovate teacher education.
This position also involves supervising students—both online and onsite—during their internships at international schools worldwide. Beyond teaching, you will be actively involved in curriculum development and collaborating with colleagues to ensure our programmes remain at the forefront of innovative developments in international education.
As a teacher trainer in international education, you will have the opportunity to work with a diverse student body from various international and educational backgrounds. We believe that diversity enriches the learning experience and prepares our student teachers to thrive in intercultural classrooms.
Where will you be working
We offer high-quality, distinctive programs in International Teacher Education (ITE). Our ITE programs prepare students for careers in international schools through bachelor’s courses in primary education (ITEPS) and secondary education (ITESS), as well as a specialized ITE track within the Master's in Learning & Innovation (MITE).
Committed to diversity and inclusion, we foster a supportive learning environment where students from diverse international backgrounds feel at home. Our ITE community includes over 600 students, most of whom live in or around Meppel. With an international faculty equipped with extensive and varied educational experience, we offer all courses in English. In this dynamic setting, we challenge students to reach their full potential and prepare them for a rewarding profession in international education.
