Biomedical Research Technician

Department

Biomedical Sciences of Cells & Systems (BSCS)

Working Enviroment

You will work within the Molecular Cell Biology section of the Department of Biomedical Sciences of Cells & Systems at the University Medical Center Groningen (UMCG). Studies by the Department of Biomedical Sciences of Cells & Systems aim to understand basic functions and processes of the cell and systems and how they lead to disease when disrupted. We strive for identification and, where possible, explanations to prevent or cure disease and to promote healthy aging.
Studies in the research group of prof. van IJzendoorn are specifically focused on molecular mechanisms that control protein and organelle trafficking inside cells. A major part of the work is centered around rare genetic diseases of the liver, gut and brain that are associated with defects in protein and organelle trafficking. We have developed expertise with a variety of disease model systems, including patient-derived induced pluripotent stem cells, organoid cultures and gene editing techniques.
