Job description

Where will you be working on?

You will teach courses on business and/or organizational communication and other discourse and communication courses in the BA of Communication and Information Studies. We are looking for a colleague with expertise in business and professional discourse and communication from a discourse analytical perspective. The candidate should have a thorough and demonstrated understanding of how the social world of businesses and organizations shape and are shaped through language and discourse, and of how this can be studied through a range of methods in the field of applied linguistics, discourse studies and communication sciences.

The candidate should be familiar with, and preferably have worked with a number of qualitative or mixed-methods approaches in the field, such as (but not limited to) narrative analysis, social actor analysis, interaction/conversation analysis, framing, metaphor analysis. You will also teach other courses in the department, depending on your profile, such as general academic skills courses, and/or text analysis courses. Candidates who also have expertise in digital communication, social media or intercultural communication will be favored.
We offer you a position with 100% of your time for teaching (including administration).

Requirements

What are we looking for?

• You preferably have or are working towards a PhD in a relevant domain of study
• You combine knowledge of business and/or organizational communication with expertise in discourse studies
• You have at least one year of relevant teaching experience and preferably relevant teaching qualifications (such as BKO-Basiskwalificatie Onderwijs, UTQ)
• You like to work both independently and in a (virtual) multidisciplinary team and producing high quality works
• You have the ability to communicate and teach in English (at least CEFR C1 level for reading, listening, writing, speaking, preferably C2).

Conditions of employment

Contract length: 48 months.

We offer you in accordance with the Collective Labour Agreement for Dutch Universities:

- a salary, depending on qualifications and work experience, with a minimum of € 2,960 to a maximum of € 4,670 (salary scale 10) gross per month for a full-time position
- excluding a holiday allowance of 8% gross annual income and an 8.3% end-of-year bonus and participation in a pension scheme for employees. Favorable tax agreements may apply to non-Dutch applicants. We offer 232 holiday hours per calendar year for a full-time employment
- an appointment on a temporary basis for 4 years, 0.6-0.8 FTE.

The appointee will ideally commence as soon as possible
