Lecturer in English for Academic Purposes (0.6 FTE)

Faculty of Arts

University of Groningen

Founded in 1614, the University of Groningen enjoys an international reputation as a dynamic and innovative institution of higher education offering high-quality teaching and research. Flexible study programmes and academic career opportunities in a wide variety of disciplines encourage the 36,000 students and researchers alike to develop their own individual talents.

The Faculty of Arts
The Faculty of Arts is built on a long-standing tradition of four centuries. Our mission is to be a top-ranking faculty with both excellent education and world-quality research, with a strong international orientation but firmly rooted in the North of the Netherlands. We build and share knowledge benefits to society and educate over 5,000 Dutch and international students to become forward-looking, articulate and independent academics. We are a diverse team of 700 staff members.

The degree program of English Language and Culture has been the top-ranked English program in the Netherlands for the last 10 years and has received a ‘top rated program’ twice in a row. Each year we welcome approximately 80 students who - after their initial 1,5 year with us - specialize in modern English literature, medieval English literature or English linguistics. In all three years, the English for Academic Purposes program is very strongly embedded within the curriculum. Developing both students’ spoken and written English language proficiency, our program is content and language integrated, with data and insights being directly taken from the literature and linguistics sections. Our department is also responsible for the EAP courses offered in the degree program of European Languages and Cultures, the focus of which is on broader topics such as language politics and policy.
