This position will be embedded in FSE’s School of Science and Engineering, which offers 14 Bachelor degree programmes and 26 Master degree programmes to approximately 7,000 students. In particular, you will become part of the team that takes care of the Biomedical Engineering programme.

Job description

We are looking for a practical support officer who can strengthen our bachelor degree programme in Biomedical Engineering. As a practical support officer, you will be mostly involved in the practical courses belonging to Physics Lab for BME, Biomaterials, and support the Microbiology practical course. You will work in a team of practical teachers, lecturers and student teaching assistants.

The tasks of the support officer will include:
● organization of practical groups and associated teaching assistants, including scheduling
● supervising students during wet lab practicals
● assisting in the assessment of practical reports.


We encourage you to apply if you:

● have a Master’s degree in (applied) physics or Biomedical Engineering (University level or university of applied science (HBO) with relevant experience)
● have experience in providing technical support for wet lab practicals in the context of biology, chemistry or biomedical engineering / sciences
● have teaching and organisational experience appropriate to the career stage
● have good command of spoken and written English
● are a team player with good communication skills
● are able to work well in an international, culturally diverse, environment.

Conditions of employment

Contract length: 12 months.

We offer you in accordance with the Collective Labour Agreement for Dutch Universities:

● a salary, depending on work experience, with a minimum of € 2,656 up to a maximum of € 3,548 gross per month (salary scale 8) for a full-time position
● an appointment for one year that will be extended by two years if you perform well
• a holiday allowance of 8% gross annual income
• an 8.3% end-of-the-year allowance
• a minimum of 29 holidays and additional 12 holidays in case of full-time employment
• training opportunities to further develop your didactic capabilities.

Preferred start date: 1 September, in any case not later than 1 November
