Lecturer Technology Law (0.5 FTE)
Faculty of Law
University of Groningen
The Groningen Law Faculty is a modern (inter)nationally-oriented Faculty with a broad and classic profile. While it has a four hundred year old tradition, it keeps renewing its teaching continually to educate broadly-oriented and skilled lawyers. The Faculty’s research to a large extent transcends legal fields and is multidisciplinary in nature. With some 4,900 students and nearly 400 staff members, the Faculty is a mid-sized Faculty in the University of Groningen.
This position is hosted at the Department of Transboundary Legal Studies.
The increase in use of digital technologies around us is reducing the separation between areas of life with the influence of technology and areas of life without technology. From a legal perspective this increasingly means that technology related legal aspects are present in almost every legal situation. As of the academic year 2020-2021, the Faculty of Law has launched a new track on Technology Law in the LLB in International and European Law. The Technology Law track is designed in light of the understanding that technology operates across jurisdictions and, as a result, regulatory responses have to occur at the interface between domestic, regional and international law. As part of this track several new courses on different aspects of technology law are being offered in English.
This position is open for a person, preferably with an interdisciplinary background, able to teach in different areas of Technology Law and has a very good understanding of technology itself. The candidate must be willing and able to teach technological concepts to legal students in an accessible manner.
In addition to a number of basic requirements set by the University of Groningen, such as excellent social and communication skills, presentation skills, coaching skills and a results-oriented attitude, we are looking for candidates who have:
• a PhD - or are in the final stages of her/his PhD - in Technology Law, or related fields
• preferably have experience with online/hybrid teaching and/or supervision of students
• excellent command of English.
