The research institute ENTEG is an engineering science and technology institute that has the capability to analyse, explore and design new technologies that are based on the integration of fundamental and engineering sciences. As such, the research in the institute focuses on current and future activities in a number of processing and production sectors such as processing, high tech and discrete production and interface industries.
The aim of this postdoc position is to develop novel polymers for cochlear implants. The primary goal of the selected postdoc researcher will be to synthesise gradient polymer materials and photoinitiators for crosslinking using 2-photon polymerization.
This project is supported by European Research Council and is part of a large consortium of academic and industrial partners. The postdoc will be required to interact with academic and industrial collaborators during regular update meetings.
Applicants must have obtained a PhD in organic chemistry or polymer chemistry or a related field. The candidate should also have experience in the following technical areas:
1) Organic synthesis including polymer synthesis
2) Engineering of polymer materials
3) Mechanical and spectroscopic characterisation techniques.
Highly self-motivated individuals who have demonstrated the ability to conduct independent scientific research successfully are desirable. Strong written and verbal communication skills in English are also required. It is expected that the postdoc stays up-to-date with the recent developments in the field, develops research ideas, writes research papers and project reports/deliverables in a timely manner. Working together in a team of other PhD, MSc and BSc students who will work on relevant topics is required. It is also the postdoc’s responsibility to maintain some of the lab instruments.
The postdoc will work in the group of chemical product technology under the supervision of Dr Ranjita K. Bose, Dr Patrizio Raffa and Prof. Francesco Picchioni.
Conditions of employment
Contract length: 12 months.We offer you in accordance with the Collective Labour Agreement for Dutch Universities:
• a salary from a minimum of € 3,353 (salary scale 10.4) up to a maximum of € 3,619 (salary scale 10.6) gross per month for a full-time position depending of relevant experience and training
• a gross holiday allowance of 8% and a gross 8.3% year-end bonus
• a limited position for a period of 3 years. The successful candidate will first be offered a temporary position of one year with the option of renewal for another two years. Prolongation of the contract is contingent on sufficient progress in the first year to indicate that the goals of the project can be met within the next two years.
The preferred starting date is as soon as possible after 1 December 2020
