IT Traineeship at the Center for Information Technology (5.0 FTE)

Center for Information Technology

University of Groningen

About the Center for Information Technology (CIT)
The University of Groningen has over 32,000 students and 6,000 staff members and is one of the top 100 universities in the world. The Center for Information Technology (CIT) of the University of Groningen has over 260 staff members and is a national and European frontrunner in information technology.

The CIT oozes the passion, ambition and innovative drive of its professors, researchers, lecturers and students. It may not be a coincidence that the CIT is located in Groningen, the ‘city of talent’ and one of the most vibrant cities in the Netherlands, where IT talent can flourish in an academic context and where innovation, creativity and entrepreneurship go hand in hand with fun and recreation.

The CIT supports and facilitates academic research and university teaching with innovative data and IT solutions. In order to optimally contribute to the University of Groningen’s strategic aims every day, the CIT recently converted its organizational model to approximately 22 self-organizing teams of 10 to 15 staff members. In addition to the Managing Board, the Linking Support domain and the supportive Business Management domain (65 staff members in total), the CIT now has the following four domains: Research (44 staff members), Education (53 staff members), Basic Workplace (63 staff members) and Infrastructure (38 staff members). The new way of working promotes the autonomy of all IT professionals involved and thus enables creativity, innovation, a decisive project approach and optimum customer satisfaction to go hand in hand – and also creates an ideal learning and development environment for trainees.

Come meet us and get a taste of the atmosphere on Friday 31 January

Are you a talented, high-potential young professional and would you like to further develop your skills on a daily basis within one of the most attractive IT environments in the Northern Netherlands and far beyond? Would you like to develop personally as well as professionally, and follow a combination of working and learning to find out which field truly suits you? Then the traineeship at the Center for Information Technology (CIT) of the University of Groningen (UG), starting on 1 April 2020, is just what you need. Together with ASBR we will organize an open information session for everyone interested on Friday 31 January. ASBR doesn’t believe in traditional application procedures – find out what their ‘new recruitment’ is all about!

Starting in April 2020, we will be offering five two-year IT traineeships, divided up into four blocks of six months each that will help you to develop personally. These traineeships offer a combination of ‘working while studying’ and ‘learning on the job’, all within a safe and inspiring working and learning environment that enables you to freely discover what truly suits you. These traineeships are relevant to all budding IT professionals who want to lay the foundations for their future career in a setting that focuses on more than just working. This future career may, of course, lie outside the University of Groningen.

But beware: most trainees are so impressed with the CIT environment and the progress of their own development that they don’t want to leave the UG after they finish! Have a look at the slideshow to read the experiences of trainees who started their traineeships a year ago. Personal and professional development does not stop after these two years. We would like to tell you all about it during an event co-hosted with ASBR on 31 January 2020 from 1.30 to 5 p.m.
