Who are we looking for
We are looking for an enthusiastic colleague (colleagues) for 0,8 – 1 fte who will transfer his or her knowledge about Europe to our students. A colleague (colleagues) who will contribute to other parts of the European Studies programme as well, such as curriculum development, coaching a Design Based Education-project, coaching personal & professional development and supervising graduatiresearch.
Many students aspire an international work field and intercultural competencies have an important place in the programme. We think it is interesting if you have an international background or study/work experience abroad to share with our students.
Where will you be working
The Thorbecke Academy is part of the NHL Stenden University of Applied Sciences and provides education for 1200 students within the programmes of European Studies, Public Administration (Bestuurskunde), Applied Law (HBO Rechten) and Safety and Security Studies (Integrale Veiligheidskunde). In addition to regular education, the Thorbecke Academy also provides courses and training sessions for professionals in the public and private sector. Moreover, the Thorbecke Academy is connected to the research group Cyber Safety, which executes pioneering and successful research and regularly presents itself on a national level with its publications and research results.
What will you be doing
The core of your position as a Lecturer-researcher consists of developing and executing education within the programme of European Studies. In addition, you coach and assess knowledge and knowledge-related projects, and assist students in defining their study trajectory. You also coach students during their traineeships and thesis writing. The language of communication is English and lectures may be both online or offline. As a member of the team European Studies you are flexible in the type of activities you are engaged in and in the content you are capable of sharing with our students. Development of knowledge and valorisation is based on cooperation with the work field, be it on a local, regional, national or international level. As a lecturer, you have a connecting role between Academy, NHL Stenden and the work field.
We are looking for a colleague who:
- Is in the possession of a Master’s Degree, preferably in the area of European Affairs, European Law and/or International Relations
- Has relevant work experience
- Has an international work/study background
- Has an excellent level of spoken and written English (C1/C2 level)
- Preferably has experience as a lecturer at an applied or academic university and possesses a basic qualification Didactical Skills or is willing to get this within the first two years of employment. A Dutch BKE certification would be appreciated
- Is enterprising, organisation-sensitive and result-oriented
- Is co-responsible for the internal and external image of the programme European Studies
- Is aware of and interested in current developments within the European Union and Europe in general
- Connects to the values, targets and teaching approach expressed by NHL Stenden and will be an ambassador of this

The salary is based on age and experience, to a maximum €5.026,85 (scale 11, Collective Labour Agreement for higher education) gross per month for a full-time position, excluding 8% holiday allowance and 8.3% end-of-year bonus. The contract will initially be for a period of 1 year. Special arrangements, such as secondment may be accepted. The place of employment is Leeuwarden.
