Lecturer in Mathematics and English as an International Language (EIL)
The ITE (International Teacher Education) trains students to work in international schools. It consists of a bachelor course for becoming a primary school teacher (ITEPS), a bachelor for becoming a secondary school teacher (ITESS) and a special track ITE in the masters Learning & Innovation. All courses are offered in English and delivered by an international staff with extensive experience of working in international schools. The bachelor courses are offered at our campus in Meppel and the masters track is an online course with two residentials in Leeuwarden. Over 700 international students are part of our bachelors and most of them live in or around Meppel.
Do you want to make a meaningful contribution to the quality of international education and the social mission of higher professional education? Can you bridge the gap between teacher training education and the primary classroom?
Who are we looking for
Our ideal candidate is enthusiastic, flexible, adaptable, has a good sense of humor and a passion for inspiring a new generation of international primary school teachers. The candidate brings experience in teaching Mathematics and EIL at international primary schools with a deep pedagogical and didactical knowledge of/in either subject across a range of curricula (e.g., IPC, IB-PYP, British National Curriculum, American Common Core). Additionally, the candidate has broad leadership experience in supporting learners of mathematics or EIL within a diverse environment and sustained interest in current developments in international education. Ideally, work has been published in the field of education and/or current research interest/projects.
We seek candidates eager to work with a diverse student body with a wide range of experience and perspectives and who want to deliver and co-create. A fluency in academic English is an evident requirement, just like an awareness of current research in the areas of learning theory and a dedication to research-based practice.
Where will you be working
ITE is a close-knit community, located on a small campus in Meppel, the Netherlands (about 90 minutes from Amsterdam Schiphol Airport) with a dedication to lifelong learning. We involve our students in almost everything and value their ideas and input towards the programme and the community. Therefore, we are looking for colleagues who have the ability to reflect on current practices and build curricula, who show a continuous desire to grow and learn as part of a friendly, vibrant and dedicated international team of higher education professionals.
What will you be doing
Your core task will be the planning, delivering and reviewing of learning sessions in the field of Mathematics and/or EIL/DBE with both larger and smaller groups of students within a multi-disciplinary team. You will also be coaching students with regards to teaching practice, general studies and the Bachelor Thesis process. We assess students’ work in the form of essays, presentations and other conceptual designs and creative testing formats. You will be supporting the ITEps team in creating and reviewing curricular approaches and in developing the academic programme.
