On behalf of the bachelor programme International Teacher Education for Secondary Schools (ITESS), NHL Stenden University of Applied Sciences in the Netherlands is looking for a: 

Lecturer in Educational Studies

Who are we looking for 
Our ideal candidate 

  • Is enthusiastic, flexible, adaptable, has a good sense of humour and a passion for inspiring a new generation of international secondary school teachers.  

  • Brings experience of teaching at international secondary schools, preferably in the age range between 11 and 16.  

  • Has a pedagogical and didactical knowledge of widely used curricula in international education (e.g., IB-MYP, English National Curriculum (IGCSEs), IMYC, American Common Core).  

  • Has experience in supporting the professional development of groups of students with diverse educational and cultural backgrounds. 

  • Has a sustained interest in current developments in international education and particularly in differentiation, inclusion and formative and summative assessment. Expertise in curriculum development is of great added value. 

  • Is dedicated to research-based practice and has published work in the field of education and/or participated in research projects.  

Where will you be working 

ITESS is a new, small but expanding international community, located on a relatively small campus in Groningen, the Netherlands, a lively, old student town. We value students’ ideas and input towards the programme and the community. The lecturer is expected to help deliver and co-create a curriculum largely based on the NHL Stenden approach of Design-Based Education.  
ITESS course units in Educational Studies are closely linked to students’ annual internships, to Professional Identity, to Subject Didactics and to Research. Integration between these elements is strengthened in the Experience Lab.

What will you be doing 

Your core task will be the planning, delivering and reviewing of learning sessions in the field of Educational Studies and related curriculum domains. You will be a supervising lecturer for students in Teaching Practice at international schools across the world. You will play a key role in developing and carrying out a third-year course unit that focuses on differentiation and inclusion.     You will contribute to strengthening the ties between the domains of Educational Studies and Research.  
In ITESS, we assess students’ work in the form of regular tests, papers, presentations, events, logbooks, portfolios and other conceptual designs and creative testing formats.   

Applicant profile 

  • Masters Degree or higher, in the field of Educational Studies 

  • Substantial international secondary school experience 

  • Preferably experience in higher education/curriculum development  

  • Profound pedagogical and didactical knowledge, including the use of ICT & technology 

  • Knowledge of current developments in international education 

  • Good command of English  

We offer 

The salary, depending on age and experience, is maximum € 4.892,31 (scale 11 cao hbo) gross per month for a full-time job, excluding 8% holiday allowance and 8.3% year-end bonus. A one-year contract will initially be offered.
