The Research Centre for the Built Environment ‘NoorderRuimte’, part of the Hanze University of Applied Sciences (Hanze UAS), is conducting practice oriented research in the northern part of the Netherlands. The Research Centre has four focus areas: earthquakes, liveability, sustainability and health & wellbeing. Our research approach integrates these four areas. Our professors, teacher-researchers, and students bring the disciplines of architecture, building and construction, civil engineering, facility management and real estate together, in close collaboration with industry partners. Within the Research Centre five Professorships collaborate, amongst which the professorate of Sustainable Spatial Transformations.

To work within the H2020-project Making City, the following job offer is advertised: Postdoctoral researcher urban planning and social innovation.

Position in the organisation


This position of postdoctoral researcher is part of the Research Centre for the Built Environment ‘Noorderruimte’, the professorate of Sustainable Spatial Transformations, within which the majority of the work will be devoted to the international project Making City. This European H2020 project is working on designing ‘positive energy districts’, in close collaboration with the residents in those areas.

Content of the role


1. Contribute to the transdisciplinary research project for the design and evaluation of ‘Positive Energy Districts’ in eight cities in Europe. The focus lies on social innovation, i.e. involving residents in the local energy transition, and urban planning and design, by applying co-design, co-creation and co-ownership of means of energy production in the planning process;
2. Contribute to the planning and realization of research, together with the other European partners in Making City;
3. Supervising a limited number of graduates;
4. Co-creating and writing proposals for follow-up research projects.

Requirements


- A finished doctorate in the field of social innovation, spatial or urban planning and/or energy transition
- Understanding of and experience with research methods, such as case-study research, research by design, qualitative analysis and survey research;
- Having published relevant journal articles and/or book chapters, including working papers;
- A proven track record of publishing in international academic journals;
- A proven affinity with practice-oriented research;
- Proven international experience;
- An excellent understanding of both spoken and written English and Dutch, or the intention to learn Dutch.

For this role, the following competences are required: results orientation, work independently, academic writing, and planning and organization. You are a teamplayer, who takes initiatives and is creative.


Conditions

The start date is asap, and the appointment will initially be for one year, with the option of extension. The appointment follows the cao-hbo agreement. The salary level is 11, with a salary between € 3.360,- and € 4.892,- gross per month full time. In addition, you will be entitled to holiday pay and a year-end bonus. Hanze UAS offers plenty of opportunities for further development in your field. A certificate of good conduct may be required. You will get reimbursement for the fee by the Hanze University. .
