Job description
You will work within the Department of Operations in the field of Operations Research on the topic of optimization problems for construction logistics. As a society we are facing a major challenge to build sufficient new houses to keep up with the growth in the number of households. Furthermore, the goal is to achieve this in an increasingly sustainable manner, including the reduction of nitrogen emissions. The operations on construction sites, as well as the logistics processes to and from construction sites, form an essential component on the path towards sustainability.
This PhD position is aimed at developing algorithms for construction-related planning problems. It is part of the project Easicon, a collaboration between the University of Groningen, VolkerWessels, Districon / Royal HaskoningDHV, and BuildingSMART. The Easicon project as a whole focuses on creating an integrated software solution for Building Information Modeling, digital twins and decision support routines for more sustainable and efficient construction operations and logistics.
Requirements
We are looking for candidates with
- A master’s degree in Operations Research, Applied Mathematics, Mathematics, Industrial Engineering, or related fields.
- A background in the Mathematics of Operations Research.
- English writing and presentation skills.
Conditions of employment
Contract length: 48 months.
The full-time appointment is temporary for a period of in principle four years, under the condition of a positive assessment at the end of the first year. The gross monthly starting salary is € 2,901 which increases yearly to a maximum of € 3,707. Based on the gross salary you will receive an additional 8% holiday allowance each year in May, and an additional 8.3 % end of year bonus in November.
Preferred starting date: as soon as possible.
