The Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences has a vacancy for a full or associate professor in Theoretical Chemistry in the Zernike Institute for Advanced Materials.

The Faculty has an international degree programme and all Chemistry courses are taught in English.
We are looking for an outstanding theoretician specialized in chemistry, chemical physics, or chemistry of materials. Candidates should be enthusiastic teachers (Chemistry curriculum) and perform internationally leading research in the development and application of theory to treat molecular systems, in gas, fluid or solid phases, in solutions or on supports. Synergy with ongoing research programmes at the Zernike Institute (see the webpage for details: http://www.rug.nl/research/zernike/research/program) is an advantage. We will support the candidate with local state-of-the-art computational facilities, which are constantly being improved to strengthen our program.
The successful candidate will be appointed as a full-time, independent group leader.
We seek candidates with:
- a PhD degree and at least two years of postdoctoral experience abroad (industrial experience can partially compensate for this requirement)
- excellent research qualities, as evidenced by a publication record in international peer-reviewed journals and renowned conferences, and a relevant international network
- teaching and organizational experience appropriate to career stage
- experience with acquisition of external funding appropriate to career stage.
- team players with good communications skills
- fluent in English
- willing to fulfil the requirements for the University Teaching Qualification
- willing to learn the Dutch language.
Conditions of employment
The appointment of Associate Professor will be a tenured appointment. The gross monthly salary, dependent on qualifications and work experience, will be from € 4,712 up to a maximum of € 6,299 (CAO-NU salary scales 13/14, 2016) gross per month for a fulltime position. There will be an assessment at the end of a 4-7 - years period for the promotion to full professor. The appointment of Full Professor will be a tenured appointment. The gross monthly salary, dependent on qualifications and work experience, will be from € 5,219 up to a maximum of € 7,599 (CAO-NU salary scales H2) gross per month for a fulltime position. The salary will show an annual increase within the scale. In addition to the primary salary the University offers 8% holiday allowance and an end-of-year bonus of 8,3%.
