Who are we looking for
The Team IB, location Leeuwarden, is looking for a people’s person who can coach, manage, connect and facilitate the team together with the present team leader. The team consists out of excellent and engaged lecturers, who are the key to high-quality education and research. The team leader is aware of this and is able to stimulate and facilitate the team to ensure that the team can focus on the quality of education.
The team leader will work together with his/her team to achieve the strategic objectives of our institution and develop our innovative educational concept of Design Based Education.
In addition to your role as a team leader, you are rooted in education. You are aware of the concerns and issues among lecturers and students. This means you serve as the connecting factor between your (lecturer) team and the academy's management team.

Where will you be working
This position is vacant at the International Business (IB) study programme in Leeuwarden which is part of the Academy of Commerce & International Business. The Academy comprises the study programmes Commercial Economics (CE), International Business (IB), and Entrepreneurship and Retail Management (ERM). The Academy educates students for national and international (commercial) positions in trade, industry and service provision. The study programmes are offered at the locations Emmen, Leeuwarden and Amsterdam.
The International Business programme is focused around Marketing & Sales, Finance & Accounting, Operations & Supply Chain Management and Organization & People.
The teamleader will also have lecturing responsibilities for students of this programme in one of these area’s.
All in all, you and your team will be responsible for approximately 725 students of the International Business study programme. The content and processes of the programme will be coordinated with the locations Leeuwarden, Emmen and partially at our international campus site in Qatar.
In this position, you report directly to the academy director.
What will you be doing
As team leader, you manage one team in Leeuwarden. You support the team in achieving the desired results and simultaneously work on developing a result-responsible team, in line with the philosophy of the new university of applied sciences, in a way that suits the concept of servant leadership.
For you as a team leader, this means that:
You manage the team that is tasked with the organisation, execution and evaluation of education (responsible for results), with the aim of education quality assurance.
You are responsible for the coordination of your team’s educational activities.
With your team and with the support of your academy’s STER team, you develop a team plan that fits within the multi-annual strategy of your unit with the aim of achieving the desired results.
You actively contribute to policy development of the academy and advise on the multi-annual policy.
You translate developments within the university and academy to your own team and curriculum, in conjunction and collaboration with the other teams. A concrete example of this is the development of our new educational concept of Design Based Education.
You ensure the team’s HR, quality, and resource management in such way that the agreed objectives can be achieved.
You coach, develop, and assess your team members, for example by holding interviews as part of the appraisal cycle and are able to develop the team’s (individual) strengths.
You participate in the management team of the academy and, as such, act as the link with your teams.
You encourage and support the connection and collaboration between teams within your academy.
You cooperate with the other team leaders of the International Business programme.
You create connections between your academy and the professional field and proactively contribute to the international and regional ambitions of NHL Stenden. Think global, act local.
You have a master degree and have experience in professional education, both as a lecturer and in a coordinating/management role.
Preferably you have experience (2-4 years) in leading teams in education.
Preferably you have been involved in accreditation processes.
You are enterprising, connective and inventive.
You have a healthy sense of perspective, you have a sense of humour and self-reflection, and an ability to balance those with a result-oriented way of working.
You are an excellent communicator which means you can connect people, are sensitive and a good listener
You have a proven ability to find the right balance between managing and giving space and align this to your team’s needs and the set objectives.
You have knowledge and/or experience in more or one aspects of the International Business; Operational management, Financial accounting, Marketing/sales, or Organization and People .
You have an excellent command of both the English and the Dutch language, both in speech and in writing.
You have got a clear view on bringing structure to teams.
You enjoy problem solving and are decisive when needed.
The salary will be determined based on age and experience, to a maximum €5,433.82 (scale 12) gross per month for a full-time position, excluding 8% holiday allowance and 8.3% end-of-year bonus.
Starting date: 1 September 2020
The position will be part of the university’s leadership framework. Flexibility of team leaders both in the position and between positions is expected and as such actively managed in HRM policy. There is currently a leadership programme for team leaders in which you will participate.
