Where will you be working
 
Hotel Management School (HMS) is an international institute with approximately 3100 students and over 120 employees. The academy offers ‘real world’, internationally oriented educational programmes, designed to prepare students for operational and management positions in the hospitality industry, and other service-related companies. HMS programs are delivered at national and international branch campuses. 

As part of our transition to a new organizational structure that puts the student journey central from selection to graduation, we are looking for leaders in change. The bachelor will be split in 4 mini-academies to create a strong sense of belonging, to prevent students getting lost between the years and to improve hostmanship in our large organization. In this position, you report to the Team leader Academic Affairs. 

Profile 

We are looking for candidate who: 

  • Are passionate leaders with skills in servant leadership* who are not afraid to take responsibility and demonstrate what NHL Stenden stands for ground-breaking education. 

  • Will work with their team to achieve the strategic objectives of our institution and develop our innovative educational concept of Design Based Education (DBE).  

  • Recognise NHL Stenden developments, translates these for the team and shows leadership to accomplish these. 

  • Coach, manage, connect, and facilitate their staff members as needed, and who tailor their approach to the relevant phase of organization- and team development.  

  • Both, drive and carry the transition within our university of applied sciences that is constantly evolving.  

  • Acknowledge that excellent and engaged lecturers are the key to high-quality education and research. The team leaders we are looking for are aware of this and takes action to ensure the quality of education and research in their team.  

  • Are convinced of the power of differences/diversity, stimulates exchange of perspectives, protects integrality. Who make sure everybody feels to be heard and seen. 

  • Know to find the right balance between leading and giving confidence/operational space; focused on the team need and the team goal settings. 

  • Have a good knowledge of business management (finance, HRM, Marketing & Communication). 

  • Have a Master degree. 

  • Have good knowledge of the Dutch and English language (oral and written).

The position of Team leader is a part-time job. The remaining component of the establishment is filled with tasks concerning primary education and/or linked to the strategic focus areas. 

In addition to your role as a team leader you are firmly rooted in education. You are aware of the concerns and issues among lecturers and students. This means you serve as the connecting faction between your (lecturer) team and the other units (programs, focus areas, research group, committees etc.) within HMS 

What will you be doing as a Team leader of a mini-academy within HMS 

  • Contributing to strategic objectives of the HMS, by coordinating, facilitating and activating staff on DBE in hospitality. 

  • Creating an optimal learning environment involving teaching staff and industry partners to support students’ learning approaches and their well-being during their DBE journey. 

  • Stimulatingactivating and guiding staff members on DBE. 

  • Co-working with representatives from the Industry on DBE in hospitality and to develop a network. 

  • Networking with the professional hospitality industry. 

  • Supporting NHL Stenden Hotel Management School in realizing its strategic objective of becoming the leading hospitality management institution in The Netherlands in terms of DBE research output. 

  • Translating developments in the institution and academy to your own team and curriculum, in conjunction and collaboration with the other teams. 

  • Ensuring the team’s HR, quality, and resource management in such a way that the agreed upon objectives can be achieved. 

  • Coaching, inspiring and supporting your team members in their performance and development. 

  • Keeping the student journey in mind in all activities. 

Conditions  

  • Salary for Team leader C will be at pay scale 12 max. of the Collective Labor Agreement of Higher education (Cao-HBO) to a maximum €5.717,25 gross per month based on a full-time employment. The exact salary will be commensurate with knowledge and experience. 

  • NHL Stenden offers attractive terms and conditions of employment including a structural year-end bonus of 8,3% paid parental leave and extensive leave and development facilities. 

  • The function is at first temporary for one year, according to article D-4 of the CAO-HBO. 

  • The post will be located at and (mainly) executed from Leeuwarden, The Netherlands. 

Start date: a.s.a.p. 

The position will be part of the university’s leadership framework. Flexibility of team leaders both in the position and between positions is expected and as such actively managed in HRM policy. An NHL Stenden leadership program for team leaders is offered.
