Teacher trainer for student teachers in international education in Mathematics

Who are we looking for 
Our ideal candidate: 

  • is enthusiastic, flexible, adaptable, has a good sense of humour and a passion for inspiring a new generation of international secondary school teachers.  
    brings experience of teaching at international secondary schools, preferably in the age range between 11 and 16.  
    has pedagogical and didactical knowledge of Mathematics in international or bilingual secondary schools and is familiar with one or more widely-used international curricula (e.g., IB-MYP, English National Curriculum, IMYC, American Common Core). 

  • has a sustained interest in current developments in International Education and particularly in the didactics of Mathematics. Expertise in curriculum development is essential. 

  • has experience in supporting the professional development of groups of students with diverse educational and cultural backgrounds. 

  • has a broad experience in supporting groups of students with diverse backgrounds and varying language skills. 

  • is dedicated to research-based practice. 

Where will you be working 

ITESS is a new, small but expanding international community, located on a relatively small campus in Groningen, the Netherlands, a lively, old student town. We value students’ ideas and input towards the programme and the community.  

Within ITESS all student teachers have a shared programme and a separate programme which focuses on Mathematics and teaching Mathematics. The Mathematics lecturer is expected to help deliver and co-create a curriculum in the context of Design-Based Education. The new colleague shows a continuous desire to grow and learn as part of a friendly, dedicated and increasingly international team of higher education professionals. 

Page BreakWhat will you be doing 

Your task will be the planning, delivering and reviewing of learning sessions in the field of Mathematics at the Groningen campus. You will be part of a year team and you will be mentoring a group of student teachers and be their supervising lecturer during Teaching Practice at international schools across the world. 

In ITESS, we assess students’ work in the form of regular tests, papers, presentations, events, logbooks, portfolios and other conceptual designs and creative testing formats. 

Applicant profile Mathematics: 

  • Master’s Degree or higher, in the field of Mathematics. 

  • Substantial international secondary school experience. 

  • Preferably experience in higher education/curriculum development.  

  • Profound pedagogical and didactical knowledge, including the use of ICT & technology. 

  • Knowledge of current developments in education and the field of Mathematics. 

  • Good command of English. 

We offer 

The salary, depending on age and experience, is maximum € 5.127,39 (scale 11 cao hbo) gross per month for a full-time job, excluding 8% holiday allowance and 8.3% year-end bonus. A one-year contract will initially be offered.
