Who are we looking for
Our ideal candidate is enthusiastic, flexible, adaptable, has a good sense of humour and a passion for inspiring a new generation of international primary school teachers. He/she brings experience of teaching at International Primary schools, ideally across the primary age range and/or with a focus on Early Childhood/Inclusion, and a deep pedagogical and didactical knowledge of English in international primary schools across a range of curricula (e.g., IPC, IB-PYP, British National Curriculum, American Common Core). Experience with regards to Literacy Development in the Early Years is of particular interest, as our university is in the process of developing an Early Years Elective focus. He/she has a broad leadership experience in supporting learners of English within a diverse environment and sustained interest in current developments in International Education. Ideally, work has been published in the field of education and/or current research interest/projects. Expertise in curriculum development is of great added value.
As we train our students for teaching at international schools, we expect that candidates can work with students of diverse backgrounds and varying prior experience and in delivering and co-creating a curriculum largely based on Design-Based Education. A fluency in academic English is an evident requirement, just like an awareness of current research in the areas of learning theory and a dedication to research-based practice.
Where will you be working
ITEps is a close-knit community, located on a small campus (450 students, 25 staff) in Meppel, Netherlands (about 90 minutes from Amsterdam Schiphol Airport) with a dedication to lifelong learning. We involve our students in almost everything and value their ideas and input towards the programme and the community. Therefore, we are looking for colleagues who have the ability to reflect on current practices and build curricula, who show a continuous desire to grow and learn as part of a friendly, vibrant and dedicated international team of higher education professionals.
What will you be doing
Your core task will be the planning, delivering and reviewing of learning sessions in the field of English with both larger and smaller groups of students within a multi-disciplinary team. You will also be coaching students with regards to teaching practice, general studies and the Bachelor Thesis process. We assess students’ work in the form of essays, presentations and other conceptual designs and creative testing formats. You will be supporting the ITEps team in creating and reviewing curricular approaches and in developing the academic programme.
- Master’s Degree or higher, preferably in the field of Language and/or Education
- Substantial international primary school experience, ideally across various age ranges and/or with a focus on Early Childhood/Inclusion
- Preferably experience in higher education/curriculum development
- Profound pedagogical and didactical knowledge, including the use of ICT & technology
- Knowledge of current developments in international education
- Academic English/Native/C2
The salary, depending on age and experience, is maximum € 4.892,31 (scale 11 cao hbo) gross per month for a full-time job, excluding 8% holiday allowance and 8.3% year-end bonus. A one-year contract will initially be offered.
