Lecturer in English as an International Language

The organisation  

ITESS is a new, small but expanding international community, located on a relatively small campus in the lively, old student town of Groningenthe Netherlands. We value students’ ideas and input towards the programme and the community. The English lecturer is expected instruct and co-create a curriculum largely based on the NHL Stenden approach of Design-Based Education.  
All ITESS students, including those specializing in History, Geography, Science and Maths, acquire English language skills both in social interaction outside the classroom, in dedicated EAL classes and through CLIL in other course units.

Task description  

Your core task will be the planning, teaching and developing of courses in the field of English as an additional language. You evaluate current practices and develop course units that include courses in TESOL, culture and literature and language acquisition. You are aware of your role as model for our aspiring teachers and plan your lessons accordingly.  

Applicant profile: 

  • Master’s Degree or higher in the field of Language and Education 
  • Substantial international secondary school experience 
  • Preferably experience in higher education/curriculum development  
  • Expertise in grammar and phonetics is preferred  
  • Academic English/Native/C2

  • has a broad experience in supporting learners of English as an additional language (EAL) in diverse groups.  
  • has experience and pedagogical and didactical knowledge of English in international secondary schools in one or more widely-used curricula (e.g., IB-MYPEnglish National Curriculum (IGCSEs)IMYC, American Common Core). 
  • has a broad experience in supporting learners of English as an additional language (EAL) in diverse groups.  
  • Has expertise in curriculum development in EAL and preferably CLIL and an interest in current developments in international education. 
has experience and pedagogical and didactical knowledge of English in international secondary schools in one or more widely-used curricula (e.g., IB-MYPEnglish National Curriculum (IGCSEs)IMYC, American Common Core). 
has a broad experience in supporting learners of English as an additional language (EAL) in diverse groups.  
Has expertise in curriculum development in EAL and preferably CLIL and an interest in current developments in international education. 
Is dedicated to design based practice. 

We offer 

The salary, depending on age and experience, is maximum € 5.026,85 (scale 11 cao hbo) gross per month for a full-time job, excluding 8% holiday allowance and 8.3% year-end bonus. A one-year contract will initially be offered.
