As a Senior Researcher you aim to make a relevant contribution to an urgent societal challenge. Conducting practice-oriented research with results that have a direct impact in the region is your passion. The Hanze University of Applied Sciences is looking for multiple researchers to significantly boost practical research.
The job
In your role as a Senior Researcher in Art & Technology, your focus is on stimulating practical development and societal innovation, critically questioning the role of technology within art and/or music projects and approaching them from a socio-ecological perspective. You will build upon an already developed portfolio and contribute to shaping and expanding the research portfolio of the Research Centre for Art and Society (KCKS).
In your research work, you will not only develop concepts, perspectives, and practices but also translate them into concrete projects with our societal partners. You will collaborate closely with colleagues, students, and teacher-researchers from the art and technology research line. Your expertise and guidance will challenge them in their development.
An essential aspect of your research task is to establish and sustain valuable connections within the visual arts, music, and technology scene in the Northern Netherlands. You play a pivotal role in creating synergy between various disciplines and stakeholders. Additionally, you function as a bridge between the Research Centre for Art and Society and the technically oriented professorships at Hanze University of Applied Sciences.
Utilizing your expertise and collaborating with researchers in various projects, you will position the research in important international research contexts. You will build upon existing contacts within the different professorships of the Research Centre for Art and Society, contributing to the global recognition of the research.
Where you will work
The Research Centre for Art & Society (KCKS) investigates and develops new artistic practices in connection with various sectors in society. It conducts practice-oriented research into how artists, designers, musicians, and arts education teachers can contribute to a more humane and sustainable world by collaborating intensively with other sectors.
Your home base will be the professorship "Image in Context." The Image in Context professorship conducts practice-oriented (artistic) research into new roles, methods, and practices of visual artists in socio-ecological contexts, with a specific focus on an artistic 'caring' and decolonializing attitude. You will coordinate a rapidly growing research group of master's, Ph.D./postdoc researchers who explore and develop the role of technology and the importance of artistic forms in societal contexts for the people involved.
What we ask of you
- You are (almost) Ph.D. qualified.
- An artistic background/practice is a plus.
- Experience with practice-oriented research at the intersection of visual arts/music and technology.
- A relevant network that you maintain and expand.
- You speak Dutch or are willing to learn it.
Additionally:
- You see and seize opportunities in initiating new projects.
- You are open-minded about research methods.
- You can independently translate ideas and information into action, manage parallel tasks, and switch between them easily.
- You are a connector with a focus on others, ensure commitments, and communicate situationally.
- You are comfortable in the visual arts and music fields.
- You are enthusiastic.
- You have a sense for innovation and trends in the visual arts and music practice.
