Lecturer Applied Game Design
0.5 - 0.8 FTE
Instituut voor Communicatie, Media & IT
The Institute of Communication, Media & IT (CMI), as part of the Hanze University of Applied Sciences in Groningen, specialises in offering a wide range of multifaceted, innovative and internationally oriented bachelor programmes.
The international program Game Design & Development (GDD) is one of the three majors within the bachelor study Communication & Multimedia Design (CMD). Within our programme we train students in working with digital interactive products and become technology savvy creative professionals. Students are offered the principles of game design and game development using contemporary tools such as Unity and modern technology as for example Virtual Reality hardware like the HTC Vive. Through interactive workshops and real-world project cases, students learn how to analyse, design, develop, and evaluate (applied) games in a realistic and professional setting.
While focusing on the body of knowledge and body of skills related to game design and development, we have four integrated learning lines embedded in the curriculum: User Experience, 21st Century Skills, Design Research, and Innovation & Entrepreneurship. These learning lines are shared with Interactive Media & Technologies and Multimedia Concepting & Design, the other two major programs within CMD.
The research group User-Centered Design, linked to CMD, is concerned with integrating applied research into the topics relevant to the majors of Communication & Multimedia Design. The GDD program is closely linked to the research group, allowing new insights to be embedded into the curriculum and allowing students to work on relevant research and development cases.
